Write a response to one of the pieces of music from the Weeks 3 and 4 Listening List. Please include the name of the performer and the piece in your
response. Responses should between 150 and 250 words long. See the rubric below to see what we’ll be looking for when grading these assignments.
Response included the name of the musical artist and the title of the composition.
The response uses notes from lecture and/or the textbook to discuss some context for the piece such as: how and why the piece was written/performed,
relevant historical/social factors, how the piece was received, and general musical features.
Evidence of Close Listening
Your reaction to the piece clearly demonstrates that close listening. You can do this by using time stamps (“at 0:35…”), referring to specific events (“when the
saxophone solo began”), and by referring to changes over time through out the recording (“the piece got louder/denser/slower etc.”)
