In the paper, you will tell the history of a laptop/computer, consciously adopting some of the methodological techniques of one or more of the historians
mentioned in the primary sources attached.
In the first page of the paper, you will talk about one or more historians that you are taking as an inspiration, and explain which aspects of their style you have
decided to follow. For instance, you might say that you will be following the Herodotus/Eusebius model and write the history of your object from the ‘deep’
past and/or from a cultural perspective, or you can take inspiration from the Thucydides/Machiavelli model and write the political history of your object, or
you can take your clues from the German 19th-century historians and write a philosophical history of your object.
In that first page, please write one or two quotes from the primary sources by the chosen historian in order to illustrate the interpretation of their methods or
Once you do that, the following pages will be devoted to the chosen object (laptop/computer). The more research you do on the object (by, say, searching in
the library online databases for articles that discuss aspects of the history of similar objects or their authors/makers, or look for documents related to it), the
higher your grade will be.
As usual, whatever material you find to support your arguments needs to be quoted in your paper or referenced in your multimedia project. Please add a
‘work-cited’ sheet and submit it alongside the project.
Please avoid descriiptive approach. This paper requires extensive analysis and critical thinking. Please avoid adding any “fillers” in the paper, just for the
volume, my professor sees right through it.
Important: Once you have chosen the historian you want to write about, please let me know and I can scan in the corresponding pages in the textbook if you
need more info about them.
