After reading Chapter 13 and “More high schoolers coming out” and “Why transgender identity is on the rise among teens” (both available in this Module
indented below this assignment page), write an essay that describes why we are seeing an increase in the number of teens identifying as transgender.
Include a discussion of “rapid-onset gender dysphoria” as a possible cause. Do not use the words “should, ought or must” as you write your paper. Why?
Because the purpose of this paper is to identify possible causes of the rise in gender dysphoria among teens. It is not meant to suggest changes in individual
or societal attitudes tied to acceptance of transgender identity. Remember also that because some people in your generation are more accepting of
transgender individuals than others may be, that does not mean that society as a whole is more accepting. In other words, do not over-generalize from your
own experiences or the experiences of your generation.
You may use additional sources if you wish, but that is not required. If you do use additional sources include a References page. Make certain that your
conclusions are supported by facts from the articles (or additional sources), and are not merely your own uninformed opinion. This is a paper that
summarizes what you have discovered in your readings. It is not a personal opinion paper.
