IT IS VERY IMPORTANT, ESPECIALLY WHEN ATTENDING A CLASS ONLINE, TO HAVE OPPORTUNITIES TO REFLECT ON WHAT YOU ARE LEARNING IN THIS
CLASS. THE DIARY CLASS ASSIGNMENT described below is A GREAT WAY TO GIVE YOU A REFLECTIVE OPPORTUNITY; make sure to express yourself in the
writing of this diary!
Please, to protect confidentiality, DO NOT WRITE ANY CONFIDENTIAL INFORMATION IN IT, SUCH AS ANY LAST NAMES OR CONTACT INFORMATION.
What is needed in order to write a good diary? You can write more than 10 pages to complete this assignment. There is no need to cite and no need to add a
bibliography or references.
Tips on how to write this diary:
Use your creativity to choose the format in which to write this diary — ANY FILE FORMAT IS OK, INCLUDING WORD OR PDF.
You can choose ANY OF THE 3 POINTS LISTED BELOW when you cover each chapter in your diary.
THESE ARE THE 3 POINTS THAT STUDENTS CAN COVER FOR EACH CHAPTER (at least 1 point per chapter is required); WE ARE INTERESTED IN FINDING
OUT HOW STUDYING EACH CHAPTER AND RELATED LECTURE NOTES HAS:
1) Impacted students’ views of older adults (for example, if a student believed that typically older adults had certain traits, how has TAKING THIS CLASS
modified those beliefs?). Please refer to class notes and/or book chapters to let us know which parts of the class materials have influenced you (for
example, a theory, or the research findings of scholars discussed in class).
2) Changed students at a personal level (for example, what do you believe now about yourself and your own aging process?).Please, whenever possible, refer
to class notes and/or book chapters to let us know which parts of the class materials have influenced you the most (for example, a theory, or the research
findings of scholars discussed in class).
3) Changed students at a social level (for example, in terms of wanting to make social changes to help society in general and to help older adults in
particular, what has changed as a function of taking this class?). Please refer to class notes and/or book chapters to let us know which parts of the class
materials have influenced you (for example, a theory, or the research findings discussed in class).
For example, you can cover (depending on your preference for what has impacted you the most regarding each chapter): Only point 1 for chapter 1; both
points 2 and 3 for chapter 2, only point 3 for chapter 3, and so on. You can copy the descriiption of the point each time, or you can just write: For point 3, I feel
that…. or I learned that…. or similar sentences.
To summarize, based on the content of each chapter and related zoom lecture, for each chapter, you can address any of the 3 points that you like the most.
Some students write their comments on point 1), 2), and 3) by writing 1 or more pages for each chapter. You can also choose to write 1 page for most
chapters, and then choose a couple of chapters that you particularly liked and write several pages on those chapters, covering 1 or more of the 3 points.
