Now it’s time to set your own SMART goal for your career. This should be a long-term, professional goal that you want to achieve at least 12 months in the future. You’ll use this SMART goal in Assignment 3, which you’ll learn about on the next page.
Your long-term goal doesn’t have to be focused on the ultimate job you want to have. Rather, it can be something that will help you in your future field or industry. For example, if you’d like to run a large insurance company one day, your long-term goal probably won’t be “Become the CEO of an insurance company.” Instead, your goal should focus on the things that will help you achieve that dream job—for example, “I’d like to work in insurance and even run a large insurance company one day. My long-term goal is to obtain an entry-level position in the insurance field within six months of my graduation date in order to start learning the insurance business.”
Now, follow each of the SMART guidelines to set your own long-term career goal.
For the next two weeks, you will explain how you will incorporate five of Queen Latifah’s strategies into your daily/weekly life to help you master the confidence you need to achieve your long-term career goal. This should be a deep and meaningful project, something you can use to move you closer to your professional dreams. Keep your answers polished and professional. Reply to each prompt in a conversational tone using full sentences and appropriate punctuation, and the writing templates will format your assignment for you.

It’s time to create a plan to develop your professional confidence! Review the long-term career goal you set in this chapter and use some of Queen Latifah’s Laws to create your Confidence Development Plan.
Let’s revisit Queen Latifah’s Push Yourself Law of Confidence from Chapter 5. Some strategies you might use when practicing this law include:
Learn to adapt to change.
Develop and maintain a growth mindset.
Apply effort and persistence when learning new skills and ideas.
Now, let’s go through the same exercise for Queen Latifah’s Learn from the Past Law of Confidence. Experience shapes our behaviors and expectations about where we think we might succeed or fail at the task in front of us. Some strategies you might use with those experiences to master your confidence include:
Reflect on previous failures and make adjustments moving forward.
Celebrate success and own the work you did to achieve it.
Take control of how you respond to the lessons from success and failure.
