This is an individual assignment. You should not share or compare memos. You must complete the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget’s Debtfixer
(https://www.crfb.org/debtfixer/) simulation either individually or with your team before you prepare your memo.
You are a junior budget analyst in the Office of Management and Budget (https://www.whitehouse.gov/omb/.). Your task is to write a concise memo
containing at least four policy recommendations to address the US government’s structural budget deficit or other pressing challenges. You are free to pick
any policy option presented in the simulation. Your recommendations can include any mix of revenue and expenditure policies you believe the federal
government should pursue.
The recommendations described in your memo should only reflect the options contained in the simulation (https://www.crfb.org/debtfixer/). Be sure to
address the policy proposal’s potential savings (or costs) in monetary terms, how the United States and its citizens stand to benefit from the policy, and how
it will influence the president’s approval rating and chances of re-election.
Your memo should begin with an executive summary paragraph and no more than one short background paragraph. Each additional paragraph should
describe and make the argument for each of the policy options you selected. You do not need a concluding paragraph (although you may include one if the
page limit permits).
The memo must be no more than two pages, single-spaced, size 12 font. The memo should be formatted as a professional business memo. See this essay
by Prof. Jenna Davis for more advice on authoring policy memos, as well as an example:
